Professor Manford W. Furr, age 53, died at Manhattan, Kansas from a heart ailment. Funeral services were held at Veedersburg a week ago today. He was the son of Mrs. Eva J. Furr and a brother of Miss Mary E. Furr of Greenfield.  His father, Silvan Furr, died 12 years ago. His old home was Veedersburg. He received degrees at Purdue University in 1913 and 1925 and his master of science at Kansas State in 1926.  A specialist in highway engineering he had been consultant and special research man for the state highway organization of Kansas and South Dakotas. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Kansas Engineering Society, the American Road Builder’s Association, Phi Kappa Phi and Sigman Tau. He was a member of the Christian Church.  He had been a member of the Kansas state faculty since 1917 and was advanced to the rank of a full professor in 1927. The ailment which caused his untimely death was traceable to a severe case of influenza he suffered about a year ago which had left him with a damaged heart.  He had sustained one severe attack Oct 31, but was judged sufficiently recovered to resume his classes and had been meeting his students for 10 days when he sustained the fatal recurrence.  Services were held in Manhattan Tuesday at 10 a.m. and at Veedersburg Thursday afternoon with interment at Veedersburg.  In addition to the local residents, the survivors include the widow, Mrs. Lela Furr and a brother, Omer Furr, at Laporte, Ind. - kbz
